The Practice

Citizen Prentice

A program 30 Years in the making...

All Citizen Athlete Project programs are online-initiated, real-life activated… the Prentice Practice provides an opportunity to cultivate attributes that are key to developing core Life-Skills for a Happy AND Successful life; specifically, 7 Core Life-Skill families: Domestic, Social, Relationship, Problem Solving, Health & Fitness, Emotional, and Communication.

We accomplish this by providing a basic understanding of our 7 Core Attributes (online – one at a time) followed by a short exercise based in the nature of each Core Attribute. After completing this process for each Attribute, a certificate is given, plus a Citizen Prentice t-shirt for completing the 7th Attribute.

The Citizen Prentice Practice 3-Step Process

Step 1: the Citizen Prentice candidate learns about a Core Attribute online.

Step 2: the Citizen Prentice Candidate works with their Advocate to complete the short exercise about the Core Attribute as learned about in Step 1, and completes that Core Attribute’s short quiz. The Citizen Prentice Certificate of Completion for that Attribute is then given.

Step 3: repeat Steps 1 & 2 until all 7 Core Attribute Certificates have been given – creating a Citizen Prentice!

... developing Happy AND Successful Lives.

The Participants

Our program requires two kinds of participants, a Prentice and an Advocate. We resist terms like student and teacher or mentor because we believe that great life-forming experiences come from an environment of sharing, rather than from a hierarchical teacher / student relationship.

The Prentice

noun | ‘pren-təs’ | def > 1. an archaic word for apprentice.

  • To us, a Prentice is anyone who wants to learn, and invest in their Life.
  • Our Prentices need no particular qualifications except to be 12 years of age or more (no upper limit) and to want to add to who and what they are as human beings… or, simply, “to BE Better”.

The Advocate

noun | ˈad-və-kət’ | def > 2. one who supports or promotes the interests of a cause or group.

  • To us, an Advocate is anyone who the Prentice feels has an understanding of a particular Attribute, and would be willing to support and advise the Prentice as needed.
  • Our Advocates need no special training to successfully guide the Prentice through their exercises – they only need to be available for consultation with the Prentice to be a great advisor.
The Time

Each Attribute requires a different amount of time to complete; some as little as an hour and others as much as 2 or 3 hours. Program completion can be expected between 5 and 10 weeks, although there is no requirement to finish in a certain time frame.

Our Philosophy

We are dedicated to the development of Happy AND Successful lives.

Our program is inspired by nearly 30 years of working with great people from all walks of life – great athletes, incredible citizens, passionate coaches and dedicated educators. Coach Rhino has observed that these folks are no different than anyone else with one exception; they live by, and for, a set of values and standards that gives their lives direction and purpose.

Without direction and purpose we don’t know where we are going or why we are doing whatever it is we do. The Citizen Prentice Practice provides the fundamental tools necessary to build a Great Life – the Citizen Athlete Project is committed to providing tools You need to find YOUR direction and purpose.

We believe to create positive life-forming opportunities, we need to remove all sense of stress and work, so our program is designed to be enjoyable and adventurous (and a little challenging).
